In a window, on a dark midnight, a girl sat - her face glowing in the soft moonlight. Tears shimmered in her eyes, and her lips trembled.
She whispered while looking toward the sky,
"I miss you so much..."
"Today, it's been 18 years alone. I miss you... It's my birthday. I'm 22 now, but you're not with me, Papa."
Her voice cracked, "Papa, I need you," she wished silently.
Just then, she heard a knock knock.
She quickly wiped her tears and opened the door. There stood Gayatri, an old lady who took care of the orphanage children - including Rooh, the girl in the moonlight.
Everyone inside the orphanage wished her,
"Happy Birthday, dii!"
She smiled faintly and replied softly, "Thank you."
But her smile never reached her eyes.
After that, everyone went back to sleep, but Rooh couldn't. She just stared at the ceiling and let the silence swallow her thoughts.
---
The next morning, she got ready for college - wearing jeans with an Indo-western kurti, oxidized earrings, and her eyes lined perfectly with kajal.
As she entered the college gates, a cheerful voice called out,
"Happy Birthday,Rooh!"
It was her best friend, Nisha.
Nisha ran to her and hugged her tightly. Rooh tried to smile but ended up burying her face in Nisha's shoulder.
Nisha asked softly, "Kya hua, Rooh? Kisi ne kuch kaha?"
Rooh didn't reply for a moment. Then she whispered, "I just... miss them, Nisha. I miss my parents."
Nisha rubbed her back and said gently, "You've missed them for so long, Rooh... It's okay to cry."
And Rooh broke down completely, her tears soaking Nisha's shoulder.

Somewhere far away...
A man was sleeping in his room filled with shades of black and grey. Suddenly, his phone rang, cutting through the silence.
He picked it up and spoke in his deep, groggy voice,
"Haan, Maa?"
From the other side came his mother's calm yet firm voice,
"Vidyut you are coming."
He didn't respond. He knew her words well but he knows his mother better then denied nit when she command, he cut the call and leaned back, eyes closed, lost in memories he'd rather forget.
Then he called his PA,
" Get ready jet"
VIDYUT SURYAWANSHI IS COMING
